This rural castle was built by the Moors in the 12th century and renovated by the Christians after they conquered it. The castle played a role in the border fights between the Moors and the Christians, and in the civil wars between the nobility and king Enrique IV.
The Castle of Berrueco is eleven kilometres from Jaén, in the municipal area of Torredelcampo. It can be reached from Torredelcampo along the JA-3401 local road and then turning off to the left onto the JV-2338 regional road. Cyclists can access Torredelcampo from the Olive Oil Green Route.
